Description
Newborn Blood Spot screening (NBS) is a national programme offered to all babies born in the UK, and it currently screens for 9 rare but potentially lethal conditions. The blood spot screening sample is taken from the baby's heel collected on a filter paper dried blood spot (DBS) card. The blood sample is analysed by one of 13 newborn screening laboratories in England
