To support development and delivery of Phase 2 of the Limits of Acceptable Change project

The primary purpose of the designation is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty and special character of the area. There are also two secondary purposes: 1) to take account of the needs of agriculture, forestry, fishing & other local rural industries, and of the economic and social needs of local communities, and 2) to seek to meet the demand for recreation.
