The primary purpose of the designation is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty and special character of the area\. There are also two secondary purposes: 1\) to take account of the needs of agriculture, forestry, fishing & other local rural industries, and of the economic and social needs of local communities, and 2\) to seek to meet the demand for recreation\.
