Description
The funding is to co-sponsor the Government Chemist conference to be held in June 2023. The funding will support the planning and preparation of this event to cover organisational activities such as venue selection and booking, conference theme and agenda development, publicity, contacting and confirming presenters, keynote speakers and session Chairs. This science focused event brings stakeholders together to discuss and address how science can underpin effective solutions to the escalating challenges facing the global food system, this year the theme will be 'Safe food for tomorrow's world - food security in challenging global conditions'. It will provide a good opportunity to disseminate, debate and seek views from enforcers, Public Analysts, and the food industry on technological issues, research and emerging gaps which need addressing and challenge government's activity in the area of food security. The event brings together funders, industry, enforcers/Public Analysts and the research community and supports the sharing and development of knowledge on food standards, authenticity and safety. This includes both analytical challenges and scientific developments, and regulatory requirements/updates. The event also plays a key role in promoting innovation and knowledge transfer. In return for sponsorship, the event will include presentations and discussion on Defra's food authenticity research, disseminating outputs and showcasing how Defra's food authenticity programme seeks to address the challenges around food fraud and mislabelling of food. Outputs will help inform the direction of Defra's Food Authenticity programme and the wider food science programme - and this event will also continue to raise the profile of the Governments work on food authenticity.
