Work description
Whitework is an embroidery technique in which the stitch and linen of the same colour, became associated with County Down in the 19th century. Flowering refers to this type of decorative embroidery that involved stitching floral patterns-often in white thread on white linen. This technique was both artistic and symbolic, with floral motifs carrying specific meanings.
