Wigan Council - Open Space Report & Playing Pitch and Outdoor Sport Strategy

Wigan Council is preparing a new Local Plan for the borough to around 2040 and an Open Space Study and a Playing Pitch and Outdoor Sport Strategy (PPOSS) are both needed to inform this.

The primary purpose of an OSR is to consider supply and demand issues for open space provision across Wigan Borough across a range of typologies including parks and gardens, natural and semi-natural greenspace, amenity greenspace, provision for children and young people, allotments and community gardens, cemeteries and churchyards, and civic spaces.

The primary purpose of a PPOSS is to provide a strategic framework which ensures that the provision of outdoor playing pitches and outdoor sports facilities meets the needs of both existing and future residents in the study area.

The required output for both of these studies are: • A database or other data collection tool that has a search, filter and reporting facility; • Executive summary report; • Assessment report; • Strategy report; and • Action plan
