Description

National Highways has requirements from OZEV for a zero-emission fleet by 2030, and within its net zero plan has commitments to decarbonise business travel and support its supply chain vehicles transition. This work feeds into understanding the energy and power demand across out depots and outstations, expanding this from understanding Traffic Officer (TO) requirements to all vehicle requirements This will eventually be across the whole estate, but this direct award focuses on where the Traffic Officer Vehicles (TOVs) are co-located at depots. National Highways SES Energy Team previously worked with consultant Costain, mapping out TOV telemetry data to understand vehicle dwell locations and times. This work highlighted what power and vehicle charging technology would be required to support a TOV fleet under the existing operational use case across a select number of sites. The next phase of this work will complete this analysis for the remainder of TO outstations alongside the remainder of the estate. As many of the NH sites are mixed vehicle fleet locations, it is important to understand the electrical capacity requirements and demand profiles for the other vehicle types to ensure suitable electrical upgrades are completed and avoid secondary disruptive and costly work. This work will also identify sites which can be 'early adopters' and which sites will be more complex to complete due to the current electrical capacity at each location.
