Description
***** THIS IS AN AWARD NOTICE, NOT A CALL FOR COMPETITION ***** This procurement is being concluded following a mini competition under the Research and insights framework RM6126 Brief Description of Requirement The purpose is to create a tool for conducting life cycle assessment (LCA) of biogas produced from anaerobic digestion (AD), based on the current GGSS LCA methodology. The tool is required to facilitate participants in the Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS) to estimate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accurately and easily. The project also aims to develop an in-depth LCA methodology of AD facilities, carrying out case studies and comprehensive assessments based on the developed methodology. In the absence of this project, it is likely that greenhouse gas emissions from the process of AD of waste, residue and crops will be incorrectly accounted for, and DESNZ will not have accurate information on the climatic impact of AD that is needed to inform how AD is supported. Correct accounting of greenhouse gas emissions from biomass energy streams directly links to achieving Net Zero by 2050.
