Description
The Environment Agency's Achieving Excellence in Health & Safety Programme has been in place for a year following the Shepperton Review, and after the death of our colleague in early 2021. Last year, twenty high risk activities which the Environment Agency routinely undertakes, were identified as being of particular concern and required a review of their operation and a review of the competency of the people undertaking the operation, for example ensuring that any training and legislative requirements were valid. This contract is being let to enable additional expertise to be bought in to support the review of the operation of these top 20 activities and any cross-cutting issues which have emerged as result of the reviews. We are seeking in particular expertise in programme and risk management and also specific technical expertise in areas such as heavy plant and working on or near water environments. We are moving towards accreditation with ISO 45001 and therefore knowledge of this system for management of risk would also be useful, as would specific expertise in relevant legislation such as PUWER and LOLER.
