Trans Pennine Tunnel Study Plus (TPTS+)

The Highways England Delivery Plan 2015-2020 committed to examine Trans-Pennine routes, develop solutions that could improve journey times between Manchester and Sheffield and address safety concerns in the area. To date the study (known as the Trans-Pennine Tunnel Study (TPTS)) has examined the feasibility of implementing a full tunnel connecting Manchester and Sheffield avoiding the Peak District National Park. This looks to identify work to take the identified package from the WTCA project and undertake additional wider economic modelling works to enhance both the economic and strategic case.
