Work description
Aim of research: To examine the contribution and value of Innovate UK to the overall UK innovation ecosystem. This will consider the relative strength and mechanisms through which Innovate UK effects the innovation ecosystem and the scale of impacts on productivity and the wider economy. This will involve examining the key relationships and dependencies, particularly with respect to the three main outcomes: economic, knowledge and societal. The research will also explore how the UK compares to innovation agencies or systems in other countries. Approach: The project will be spilt into two phases which will include an initial review of existing evidence during phase 1, followed by a comparative international review and analysis of the gaps in phase 2. The second phase will draw on wider source of evidence to support and improve the analysis in phase 1 and include recommendations on how this can be improved going forward. For example, how to measure and attribute changes in productivity or innovation diffusion in different sectors of the economy. The supplier will establish links with the Innovation Caucus who will provide input into the project over the two phases described above and also quality assure the outputs as part of a peer review process.
