Work description

The Health & Safety Laboratory is seeking to identify Hazardous Areas Approved Electrical Contractors which are able to carry out electrical works in one of it’s building on the Buxton site.

Background

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is a Crown non-departmental public body with specific statutory functions in relation to health and safety. It is appointed by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and employs around 3500 staff including policy advisers, inspectors, technologists and scientific and medical advisers. HSE’s job is to prevent people being killed, injured or made ill by work. HSE comprises various directorates and groups and is led by a senior management team. The Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) is part of HSE. HSE works from over 30 locations throughout Great Britain.

Health & Safety Laboratory

The Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) is Britain's leading industrial health and safety facility. HSL supports HSE’s mission to protect people's health and safety by ensuring risks in the changing workplace are properly controlled.

Key Criteria

• The electrical installations to the Building shall be carried out only by contractors who are registered as Hazardous Areas Approved Contractors by the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) or are members of the Electrical Contractors Association at an appropriate level for the type of installation being undertaken.

• All electrical operatives carrying out installation works are to be trained and qualified appropriate to the level and type of work they are undertaking.

Specification

Before a detailed specification for this work can be released, a non-disclosure agreement must be put in place between prospective suppliers and the Health & Safety Laboratory. A non-disclosure agreement will be released on request to those suppliers with the evidence satisfaction of the key criteria.
