Work description
St Helens Town Centre is in need of significant regeneration and improvement as it adapts to changing 21st century retail habits and wider cultural trends. Through a long-term partnership with the English Cities Fund, St Helens Borough Council is developing detailed proposals for transformational regeneration of the borough's primary town centre. Our Town Centre Investment Plan was recently successful in securing £25m investment through the government's Towns Fund and sets out an ambitious vision for creation of a culturally centred, vibrant town centre, fit for the future.\r \r The Town Centre Investment Plan identifies six core projects to achieve this vision. These are as follows:\r 1. Glass Futures Phase 2 - delivery of a world-class centre of excellence for medical glass production, research and development.\r 2. Town Centre Regeneration & Living - repurposing the town centre to create a mixed use scheme in the heart of St Helens, including brownfield infill parcels across the town. \r 3. St Helens Heritage World - reimagining the World of Glass museum, along with public realm enhancements, a new park and a digitally enabled heritage trail.\r 4. Healthy Communities - provision of a youth & community zone (leisure uses & service provision) and health innovation hub (incubation centre for health-focused SMEs).\r 5. Connected Places - detailed further below.\r 6. Digital infrastructure - creation of a local loop to provide full-fibre broadband to homes and businesses Borough-wide.
