Description

Wiltshire Council has identified that there are 2,370 additional houses outlined in the Wiltshire Core Strategy that are to be built within the Melksham Oak Community School's catchment area, generating an additional 253 secondary aged pupils. This forecast demand for secondary school places is expected to begin to have an impact on current places at the school from the 2021/Academic Year. Consequently, there is a need to increase the capacity of the school by 240 places by June 2021 in order to meet the forecast demand from additional houses through the construction of a new teaching block on land within the school site. The proposed new teaching block is to accommodate new maths classrooms, science labs, dining facilities and a 6th form element. The proposed building is to be located within the Melksham Oak Community School Campus, to the north-east of the existing teaching blocks. The development also includes associated landscaping and additional parking provision to suit the expansion. The Council intends to appoint a single contractor to undertake the expansion works following the successful conclusion of a mini-competition held under the Pagabo Medium Works Framework.
