## Description

The Food Standards Agency \(FSA\) is a non-ministerial government department governed by a Board appointed to act in the public interest, with the task of protecting consumers in relation to food\. It is a UK body with offices in London, Aberdeen, Cardiff, Belfast and York\. Active Management Systems \(AMS\) use environmental parameters to predict periods of elevated faecal pollution from human sewage and/or land run-off impacting shellfish production areas and allowing commercial shellfisheries to be closed to prevent the harvesting of contaminated shellfish\. Re-opening of shellfish production areas would occur following an agreed period of time to allow faecal contamination to return to the usual “background” levels for the production area concerned\. The procurement will be managed electronically by the Food Standards Agency e-tendering portal\.
