Description

The Science Museum Group seeks a supplier to assess the internal details and condition of the historic working machines (HWMs) housed in the Power Hall. A preliminary audit (Stage 1) has already been completed, focusing on identifying the scope of work required for the comprehensive audit (Stage 2). The objective of this project is to perform a series of inspections, as designed by the Museum's historic machinery consultant, to: - Understand the internal details and condition of each historic working machine (HWM). - Assess wear resulting from previous use. - Identify and carry out the remedial work required to restore operability. This work will achieve the following five key outcomes: - Benchmarking: Establish a baseline for monitoring wear and tear over the medium and long term, supporting the ongoing care of the historic machinery. - Unseizing Engines: Free up seized engines where feasible. - Essential Repairs: Identify the critical remedial measures required to return the machines to working condition. - Costed Recommendations: Provide costed and prioritised recommendations for additional repairs or improvements to optimise conservation, performance, and longevity. This will also assist with the Museum's long-term budget planning. - Engine Sustainability: Inform maintenance, inspection, and operation plans to ensure the engines can be run sustainably for the foreseeable future.
