Work description
BEIS commissioned the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) for developing a UK-China Joint Research and Innovation Centre (JRIC) joint venture and associated programme, together with the costs of transitioning that model into the current non-JV approach being managed by the Nuclear Innovation and Research Office (NIRO). Note that BEIS commissioned NNL to complete this work (rather than pursuant to a formal contract). BEIS is paying NNL's incurred costs since this programme commenced in November 2016.
These costs include, but are not limited to: external legal and financial advice, developing technical work streams, communications and implementation. The work of the NIRO after March 2018 has been included in the business case for the delivery of the JRIC collaborative programme, to be approved by the BEIS Energy Innovation Portfolio Board.
