Sight & Sound was first published in 1932 and to this day maintains an international reputation as the leading magazine for those with a serious appreciation of film from all corners of the globe\. The magazine has, in the past, enjoyed an extremely high subscriber retention rate partly as a result of our status as a 'Journal of Record' whose duty it is to review and provide credits and production information for every film that gets a theatrical release in the UK\. As such we are perceived by a proportion of our readers as a 'reference' title and are therefore collected avidly by the serious film-buff as well as operating a substantial number of academic/library subscriptions\.
