Work description
Homeyards Botanical Gardens was initially created by Mr & Mrs Homeyards as a private garden in the early 1920?s. The garden was designed by the famous William Sears, who was well known for his previous garden designs, and who had previously worked on a local scheme at Lindridge Gardens. Features within this historic garden include a ?mock? castle previously used as a summer house, an ornamental Italian garden and a variety of mature plants and trees. The heritage features of the site are in need of restoration to preserve it for future generations; the Authority therefore looked to secure funding to preserve this historic asset. An application was made by Teignbridge District Council Department to the Heritage Lottery Fund for £275k. This successfully gained Stage 1 Heritage Lottery Funding (HLF) approval, with Teignbridge District Council receiving initial support from the HLF via development grant.
