Work description

The purpose of this brief is to commission a research agency to carry out a mixture of qualitative and quantitative research to improve our understanding of farmers’ and agricultural workers’ perceptions, attitudes and behaviours towards health and safety; particularly relating to ‘risk-taking’ behaviour, leading to either a quantitative segmentation or qualitative typologies. The segmentation/typologies will need to inform HSE’s activities in the agricultural sector and provide the capability to prioritise, target and tailor our interventions, campaigns and messaging to achieve a reduction in the rate of injuries and fatalities. We also wish to explore farmers’ wives or partner’s views towards risk-taking behaviour and understand their perceptions of the level of influence they have to stop their spouse taking risks with their lives and their health.
