586 Analytical Microscope

An analytical microscope is required to understand the morphology of samples produced by the NFC. The analytical microscope will allow for a magnification range not currently catered for within the department; falling between the stereo microscope for low magnification and the SEM for high magnification. In addition to the capability given by reflected and transmitted light, the inclusion of a fluorescence module will allow an extended envelope of operations to be offered (such as detecting fine cracks and defects for example). The inclusion of a hot stage will allow the monitoring of the formation and separation or crystalline phases.
