Work description
The Southampton Central Station Mass Transit Hub project aims to deliver a step change in public transport integration that will support high quality, efficient and accessible connections between rail, bus, coach, taxi, walking and cycling. It will also have to cater for car access, but aim to reduce the dominance of car based access, whilst also acknowledging the role and interaction of Western Esplanade which is part of the cities Inner Ring Road. As one of 10 cities now eligible for consideration for the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), Southampton City Council must now progress the design of the new transit hub to ensure the project can be presented as part of the wider TCF business case in the summer 2019 and subject to the outcome, be deliverable by 2022. Development of the transit hub design will also support the wider regeneration plans to the south of the station which includes the now vacant Toys R Us site. This brief covers the concept design optioneering work to establish a preferred design layout option for Central Station Mass Transit Hub.
