Description

BFI is seeking to commission primary research to enable a full mapping of the UK's animation sector in terms of its size in terms of both economic value and workforce. A robust and rigorous articulation of the sector's economic value, the number and location of animation companies and the number and type of roles in which people are employed - as well as an articulation of the funding models and length of time to both make an monetize content - are required in order to arrive at a more robust estimate of the size, economic impact of the UK's animation sector and its wider value chain, and to enable the sector to be better understood by investors, decision-makers and policy makers. It will utilise and build on the animation sector definitions and partial economic estimates established in Mapping the UK's Animation Sector which the BFI commissioned in 2019 and completed in April 2020. The identified evidence gaps to be addressed at Stage Two encompass three themes: o Improving mapping accuracy; o Improving economic impact calculations; and o Understanding employment and skills of the core and ancillary animation sector.
