Defra is committed to the highest animal welfare standards and is aware of a growing body of evidence that considers the capacity for decapod crustaceans and cephalopod molluscs to experience pain, suffering and distress. In light of this body of evidence and concerns raised by a number of animal welfare organisations, they are commissioning an external review of the evidence.
