Description

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy. As the UK's biggest public service department, it administers State Pension and a range of working age, disability, debt management and 'ill health' benefits to over 22 million claimants and customers. The purpose of this contract is to recover money owed to UK Government through a Debt Management Litigation process from debtors who are required to meet their statutory obligations. Legal enforcement activity does not traditionally fall within DWP/CMS services unless there is a public or administrative law interest, however, there is sometimes a requirement for an appropriate and fully qualified supplier to take cases further forward on behalf of DWP/CMS. All DWP actions taken fully comply with Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) guidelines. DWP has therefore contracted a Private Sector supplier to recover debt that DWP has not been able to collect via in-house processes. The use of this enforcement power has the desired effect of persuading some non-compliant debtors to pay their debts and avoid further legal action to be taken and/or where they may incur additional incidental charges.
