API Management

The Buyer's API platform provides an easier way for it to build new APIs and for third parties to consume our APIs, using the latest open standards such as FHIR R4 for healthcare data and OAuth 2.0 for security. The developer hub is our developer-facing service, including the API catalogue, specifications and a portal where third parties can onboard and manage their security credentials.

The Buyer's API Management function is currently organised around the following four primary teams, each comprising flexibly staffed squads:

• API Hosting Platform - Managing the infrastructure to support the consistent development, hosting and documentation of APIs • Developer Hub - Deliver and maintain the Developer Hub on the NHSD Website, including API specifications and other related documentation • Digital Onboarding - Responsible for the external developer organisation onboarding processes and continuous improvement of them • Build the right APIs - working across the entire API landscape to ensure we have the right APIs to meet the needs of the healthcare industry
