Description
To sustain the food chain (75,000 jobs in the GLLEP economy) investment in efficient low carbon cool chain infrastructure and technology is essential. In Greater Lincolnshire major product categories in which the area is a national leader (such as fish, meat, vegetables, salads, fruit, chilled ready meals and cut flowers) are all dependent on the cool chain. A study is therefore proposed to look at: a) market trends which will change the demand for cool chain infrastructure; b) mapping and categorising the current stock of infrastructure; c) identifying exemplar approaches to energy efficiency and carbon reduction; d) exploring how local expertise can help deliver more efficient cool chain solutions; e) developing a plan for investment in the cool chain; and f) setting out the investment opportunity for local businesses and external investors (e.g. 3PL providers).
