Work description
Goldsmiths, University of London, would like to invite suppliers to bid for the contracts for building works for refurbishment of its Listed Grade II teaching theatre building, known as the George Wood Theatre.
The objective of the project is to refurbish the existing Listed former chapel building and while so doing create a new teaching theatre within the chapel building with associated \"Black\" and \"White\" studios in the adjacent stage space. To enable these works there is an initial project comprising stripping out the existing theatre, including seating rake, false ceiling and stage and the installation of primary steel components ahead of the main contract works.
There will be two contracts associated with this project, each contracted as a Lot:
Lot 1 - Enabling strip out contract, to remove existing timber ceilings, timber seating rake and seating, control room, acoustic wall linings, stage and floor finishes, as described in the supporting documentation; additionally, including for the installation of certain primary structural components, mainly the steel supporting frame for the proposed studios within the stage volume;
Lot 2 - Main construction contract, the proposed scope of works being to restore the envelope of the Listed historic building and to insert proposed theatre fittings and finishes, including the aforementioned studios, flooring, tension wire grid, bleachers and control deck and all associated services including data.
