New Prison and Prison Expansions Healthcare Design Review

he Government's 'New Prisons Programme' was announced by the Prime Minister in 2021 and at the recent Spending Review. The Government has committed over £4 billion capital funding to make significant progress in creating 18,000- 22,000 additional prison places across the prison estate by the mid-2020s. The Central Health and Justice Team have committed to support the oversight of the healthcare design for prison expansions exceeding 300 new prison places per site due to the impact that this additionality of prisoner volume will have on new and existing Healthcare facilities and the ability to provide safe healthcare.
