Work description

The National Physical Laboratory [NPL] Electromagnetic Technologies department is looking to extend their high-frequency vector network analyser (VNA) measurement capability to the 220 to 330 GHz range to enable ground-breaking metrology work to be carried out underpinning future communication networks and quantum applications. This new capability will also lead to the extension of multiple measurement services, including impedance, RF power, microwave antenna, and on-wafer measurement of compound semiconductor devices (a new calibration service being launched).

The extension of high frequency electrical measurement capability to the 220 to 330 GHz band will complement existing capability at NPL currently from DC to 220 GHz and 500 to 750 GHz.

The requirement is for two VNA frequency extender heads in the WR-3.4 waveguide band (220 to 330 GHz, WM-864, J-Band) which can interface with a Keysight N5247B PNA-X VNA to perform characterisations, primarily in the form of S-parameter measurements, of 1 and 2-port devices in this waveguide band. A WR-3.4 calibration kit is also required. Delivery date is by December 2023.
