Timeline
Description
The management of underwater noise is currently hindered by several barriers, mainly surrounding evidence. One key focus is obtaining data on activities that result in impulsive noise that could cause disturbance to marine mammals so we can better assess impacts on the marine environment, in particular on harbour porpoise Special Areas of Conservation (SACs). The UK governments has committed to quadrupling offshore wind by 2030.In addition, activities relating to Carbon Capture, Unloading and Storage (CCUS) and Gas unloading and storage (GU&S) are increasing. This will likely increase the pressures resulting from noisy activities in UK waters. Tools such as the UK Marine Noise Registry (MNR) are imperative in allowing better coordination and management of noisy activities across marine industries. A third phase of development (herafter referred to as Phase III) is now needed to further improve the user experience for data input and outputs and enhance functionalities that will help with data collection and data outputs which will facilitate the management of noise, particularly in harbour porpoise SACs.The proposed developments will be based on feedback gathered during user testing sessions as well as submissions made to the Jira software by JNCC staff and general MNR users. Special focus will be given to suggested improvements to the novel 'Disturbance Tool'. Available budget The total value of this project is £60,000 (GBP) including VAT If interested in this project potential bidders are invited to download the following documents and complete the conflict of interest form and the acceptance form of our terms and conditions attached to the invitation to tender letter (ITT).
