Work description

A Fishery Science Partnership (FSP) involving the fishing industry, Defra and Cefas scientists was established in 2003. Defra has confirmed the continued funding of the Fisheries Science Partnership programme for a further year in 2018/19. Background to this Project The wider objectives of this project will be to improve the understanding of stocks and the fishery of Sardine and of Sprat in Area VII. The project consists of three components: 1. Self-sampling programme by the sardine ringnet fishery; 2. A self-sampling programme by the sprat fishery and 3; conduct an acoustic survey aboard a sprat fishing vessel, using scientific echosounder equipment, to map and quantify sprat in Lyme Bay.

This tender is for the third component of the project: the acoustic survey on sprat. Sprat is assessed by means of an acoustic survey (Peltic). The aim of the current project is to conduct industry based survey work parallel to the existing Peltic survey to provide an opportunity to examine the amount of biomass residing in shallow inshore waters.
