Work description
This procurement is for a strategic refresh of the Corporate Storage and Virtualisation Compute Infrastructure in order to maintain a reliable service, provide good performance, and allow for capacity growth.
After at least 6 years of operation, and longer for some components, the cost of maintenance, along with concerns over reduced reliability, capacity, and general age of the technology, the refreshing of this infrastructure is recommended.
The ICT Storage and Virtualisation Compute are critical areas of the ICT core infrastructure;
• The primary production storage array hosts the vast majority of Devon's electronic data • The array is now six years old and has been planned for lifecycle refresh this year. • A significant failure would affect many critical services including; Finest, HRMS, HP Records Manager, Internet & Transactional Services, M Drives & P Drives, Connectivity/Authentication to services such as Carefirst, Office365, Exchange Online, Homeworking. • The Virtualisation Compute hosts virtual servers that underpin many of the applications mentioned above, along with the core services required to support the Corporate Desktop. • A significant proportion of this estate is old and in need of refresh • The underpinning technology has become complex to maintain and is approaching end of sales life • The technology is also becoming a limiting factor in keeping the Virtualisation technology up to date.
