Work description
The scheme will involve the construction of an integrated cycleway network incorporating five individual "links" throughout Lydney and the surrounding areas. The proposed network will improve connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians by providing safe and easy to ride routes, suitable for utility, leisure and commuting use. A summary of the links is shown below: • Link 1 runs through the town centre along High Street, Hill Street, and Newerne Street and then out to Aylburton. • Link 2 is within Lydney Recreation ground and links the A48 to the Town Centre and (Swan Road). • Link 3 will provide an off-carriageway facility connecting housing developments to the eastern side of the town to the Bus Station and town centre. • Link 4 will connect the A48 to the railway station. • Link 5 runs between High Street and the Recreation Trust Ground via Dean Academy. The majority of the works are off carriageway and focus on widening exiting footways or creating new facilities within the highway verge. Works include kerbing, resurfacing and signing and lining. Works along the main high street include the removal of existing road markings and installation of new 'parallel tiger' cycle/pedestrian crossing (zebra) and a toucan crossing. The works for site 2 are within Lydney Recreation Ground and include a new footway / cycleway alongside the football club the installation of a new footway / cycleway bridge over the River Lyd.
