Description
This current research commission will build on our previous work by focusing in detail on doctors' 'decision-making processes' regarding international migration. By this term we mean that this research will move beyond setting out the trends that are taking place and/or identifying broad correlates/reasons for migration, to understand how the actual decision-making process to migrate internationally works in practice. For instance, this process could involve moving linearly from an initial interest in the possibility of such migration, through researching and taking initial practical steps, through to putting a plan to migrate into practice. It will, of course, be the case that such processes will differ between doctors, although they may cluster into broad types. Different push and pull factors may have different degrees of prominence in different stages of this process.
