Methane Stripping Plant at Plank Lane, Leigh

A contract to design, supply, install and commission a new Methane Stripping Plant (MSP) for our closed landfill site at Plank Lane, Leigh.

The existing plant has reached the end of its operational life, necessitating an upgrade to incorporate new technologies for improved treatment efficiency. This upgrade is expected to yield energy savings and reduce environmental impact.

Traditional treatment methods have included biodegradation by microorganisms or aeration using tank diffusers. The contract awarded is based on a Methane Stripping Plant (MSP) that utilises mechanical jets to dissolve methane, which has been identified as a more cost-effective long-term solution. This innovative technology has been developed and patented by Leachate Solutions Ltd.

The new Methane Stripping Plant is crucial for ensuring compliance with the Water Act and other relevant environmental legislation.
