Description

The B3130 road passes north-east to south-west through the village of Belluton, approximately 1km north of Pensford and 8km south of the centre of Bristol. The road is set in a steep cutting that is approximately 250m long, and is up to 5m deep. The cutting is partially vegetated with ivy, semi mature and mature trees, with occasional near vertical to overhanging rock faces, soil debris at the toe and small discrete soil slip scarps exposed. The cutting slopes have a history of instability with localised soil and rock falls onto the road presenting a hazard to road users and requiring regular maintenance by Bath & North East Somerset Council (B&NES or ‘the Council’)). Slope debris also appears to have blocked highway drainage at the toe of the slope. The Council wishes to improve the stability of the cutting to reduce maintenance requirements and the risk to road users.
