0-5 Years Health Visiting Services

Provision of a universal Health Visiting Service (HVS) is a statutory requirement. Health Visitors lead delivery of the 0 – 5 year’s elements of the Department of Health’s Healthy Child programme (HCP) in partnership with other health, education and social care services. HCP is a schedule of evidence-based universal and targeted activities including, health and development reviews, screening tests, health promotion and guidance and support to parents. Evidence shows that the interventions provided by Health Visitors are effective in securing healthy child development and positive future health and educational outcomes to help to avoid costs associated with dealing with problems such as mental health, delayed learning, as well as child protection issues at a later stage.
