District Heating Replacement Scheme

Within the Oxclose, Albany and Fatfield areas of Washington, Tyne and Wear, 1,020 properties are currently heated via a "District Heating Scheme". This district heating scheme comprises of a number of boiler houses within various locations, the boiler houses each contain a number of boilers which provide heating to each of the 1,020 properties via underground pipework.

A strategic decision has been made by Gentoo to remove this district heating network. This is largely due to the ageing underground pipework, the increased maintenance costs and the cost of heating which is lost within the transfer stage between the boiler house and each property.

Gentoo require the successful Provider to replace this district heating scheme by way of installing a gas condensing combination boiler within each of the affected 1,020 properties.

Northern Gas Networks are currently re-routing all gas supplies within the Albany and Oxclose areas to enable the affected properties to accept the new boiler installations. This work is expected to be completed and gas meters will be installed to each property before the Provider is appointed to deliver the works.
