The overarching aim of the project is to collate a precis of relevant literature and archival records/ evidence on the use of wood and coal tars in England, across history. It is intended to consider: • Differences in the use of wood tar and coal tar; • Geographical/regional differences in its use; • The chronology of its use; • The type of buildings on which it was typically used; • Technical information on the production of coal/wood tar.
