Work description
Nationally, almost one in four British adults and one in ten children experience a diagnosable common mental health problem at any given time in their lives. In Barnet this approximates to 40,000 people.
Reducing the prevalence of common mental health disorders such as anxiety and depressive disorders is a major public health concern. In 2007 the annual cost to treat depression and anxiety disorders in England was nearly £3billion with an addition impact of around £13billion in lost earnings among people of working age.
The Five Year Forward View for mental health states that 'Three quarters of people with mental health problems receive no support at all. Among those who are helped, too few have access to the full range of interventions recommended by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), including properly prescribed medication and psychological therapy.
