Work description
The aim of the project is to provide an independent assessment of the scientific quality of work carried out at three large national research facilities, via a bibliometric analysis of publications: ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, Central Laser Facility (CLF) and Diamond Light Source, all based at STFC's Harwell Campus. It will help BEIS to assess the scientific contribution of each facility in relation to international comparators, thereby allowing us to assess the value the facilities add to the UK research community. The objectives are: Q1 - For each of the three UK facilities (CLF, Diamond and ISIS) how does UK research using facilities compare with UK research not using facilities, for each research field? Q2 - How does research using UK facilities (ISIS and Diamond) compare with research using international facilities (ILL and ESRF) for each research field? Q3 - How does research by UK users of UK facilities (for CLF, Diamond and ISIS), and UK users of international facilities (for ILL and ESRF), compare with the global average for each field? Two international comparators are needed for the analysis: Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble, and European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble.
