Description

The catchment area covering the Malmesbury and Lea and Garsdon Primary Schools has seen a population rise from additional housing development in the Malmesbury area in recent years, increasing the number of pupils and the demand for school places: this is calculated at 0.5 forms of primary school entry (up to 120 additional places). As a result, and following an Evaluation Study undertaken by Wiltshire Council, on 17th January 2017 the Council Cabinet and Assets Committee approved a proposal that Works were to be undertaken at the Lea and Garsdon CE Primary School to support the required increase in capacity. The planned changes will support a further 120 places (0.5 form entry) at the School. The works will consist of: • a new building containing a Main Hall, 3 classrooms and associated ancillary rooms • an extended car park, a canopy to link to the main school building and canopies to be used for covered play and external teaching • improved site infrastructure that will provide a range of sports facilities for pupils, staff and the local community including hard games courts and a grass sports pitch • the eradication of disability access difficulties and discrimination in the new extension and the rationalisation of existing school buildings through the adoption of compliant design principles and ensuring that all schemes meet Building Regulations. Procurement of an area of land adjacent to the school will ensure the school site is of a suitable size; works on the additional land will be limited to hard and soft landscaping.
