Basingstoke and Deane and Hart Councils have a joint service and are responsible for all street cleansing operations within their borough boundaries They are committed to ensuring a safe and clean environment for all residents and visitors to the boroughs. A duty is placed on the Councils under the Environmental protection Act 1990 to keep public open space including highway roads and footpaths free of litter and rubbish. This is a large-scale operation covering an area of over 400 square miles.
