The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) are currently looking at potential options to reduce bycatch (incidental capture) of harbour porpoise from gillnets. Pingers are small cylindrical devices that emit sound and are highly effective at reducing porpoise bycatch from gillnets. Contract awarded by Defra.
