Work description
The project objectives are to - provide evidence of the effect of a tree shelter belt on ammonia emissions from intensive, ventilated poultry sheds, extended to cover a full calendar year, so that the effect of leaf fall and weather patterns is assessed over more monitoring periods of the poultry cycle and all seasons - to evaluate the effectiveness of a narrow tree belt in a hedgerow or agroforestry system in comparison to other tree shelter belt planting designs in previous ART experiments and existing tools and guidance - to compare ammonia concentrations using different monitoring techniques: o 11 passive alpha samplers in transects and 2 Directional Passive Air Samplers (DPAS) - to inform better advice and guidance to farmers on ammonia mitigation and guidance for potential inclusion in future environmental land management schemes - to inform the targeting of any advice and grants on tree planting for ammonia
