Work description

The EPSRC National Epitaxy Facility (NEF) at the University of Sheffield supplies a wide range of III-V semiconductor materials and devices primarily to the UK academic research community. The NEF also engages in significant activity researching and developing new materials and structures. Many of the materials produced by the NEF are intended for photonic and optoelectronic applications that often require photoluminescence based characterisation to determine material quality and compliance with design specifications.

The NEF is seeking to purchase a cryostat/cooling system that can accommodate and facilitate optical access to a full 3 inch semiconductor wafer. The system must be capable of cooling the sample to a temperature of <10 K (Kelvins) with a guaranteed uniformity across the wafer of +/- <2 K. Furthermore, the NEF does not have easy access to liquid helium so the cryostat must be supplied with a compatible closed-cycle cooling system.
