Work description
As part of planned rail safety works alongside Weymouth harbour at Commercial Road, the existing rail lines which are flush with the road surface are being removed (along with a mixture of concrete and timber sleepers and the associated cast iron shoes and cleats). The works will take place in two phases. Phase one will take place during October 2020 with a total of approximately 2676 metres of rail line removed for disposal and Phase two taking place in early 2021 with a total of approximately 3000 metres of rail line removed for disposal. The total expected weight of rail lines is anticipated to be around 567 tonnes (excluding sundries such as cast iron cleats and shoes). The Council is seeking offers from Contractors for purchase of the scrap rail lines. As part of their offer the Contractor shall provide at least 2 suitable open top roll on off hook lift or similar type containers with a capacity of approximately 35 to 40 yards with full height double doors for the rail lines to be loaded into.
