Description

Somerset West and Taunton Council are investing £66m in Taunton Town Centre regeneration schemes . A long-held ambition of the Council is to enable active travel improvements for Taunton Town Centre. In particular, the development of a comprehensive and integrated footpath and cycleway network with improved signage and cycle parking facilities. The proposals for the River Tone bridge consider a new footbridge crossing the River Tone located at the existing Morrison's Bandstand on the northern bank of the River Tone and adjoins the southern bank. The proposed scheme joins the National Cycle Network Route 3, adjacent to the northern bank of the River Tone to the existing footway adjacent to the southern bank. The Council is inviting Bids from Applicants in response to the published advertisement. The procedure will employ a 'Two-Stage' tender process, whereby a 'preferred supplier' will be shortlisted during this 'first stage' tender exercise. The preferred supplier will subsequently be formally engaged on the basis of a 'Pre-Construction Agreement' to deliver 'pre-construction scope'. The intention is then for the Council to engage with the preferred supplier to deliver the works on the basis of the 'main works' contract. This 'second stage' award of the main works contract is on the proviso of successful agreement of a contract sum/tendered offering to undertake the works.
