Description

The Celtic Sea and Western Channel Pelagic Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) has been identified as the most promising FMP to take forward with a natural capital approach (NCA) under the marine Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (mNCEA) Programme. The purpose of this project is to carry out a desk-based literature review, including engagement with mNCEA project leads where possible, to synthesize the current economic, environmental, and social evidence for the Celtic Sea and Western Channel Pelagic fishery, and identify what evidence is needed to generate a robust evidence-base to take a NCA in developing this FMP. Focus stocks are Herring, Pilchard (NQS species), Greater silver smelt, Horse mackerel, Anchovy (NQS species). This will provide a proof of concept for taking a NCA to fisheries management more broadly. This contract was awarded by MMO.
